General Information
As a general principle, you will have a shared decision-making process in your medicinal cannabis journey.
There is a myriad of medicinal cannabis products in the market. Working with your doctor is the most effective & sensible way to use these products.
There is a tendency for some medicinal cannabis products to run out of supply (OOS) or be discontinued. This creates an additional administrative and clinical burden since product substitution is not currently allowed as per Queensland lawful medicinal cannabis prescription guidelines; a new script is therefore required. You will be prescribed medicinal cannabis products that we trust to have an excellent medicinal cannabis/terpene profile & excellent supply history.
Patients can however request specific medicinal cannabis product(s) to be prescribed for them: If you seek specific medicinal cannabis products to be prescribed, you are strongly advised (the onus is on you) to first check the specific products availability at the pharmacy of your choice before your consult.
Medicinal Cannabis Dosing
We understand every patient is unique in their response to medicinal cannabis. Some patients will have their symptoms well managed with CBD dominant products alone while some will require additional THC dominant products. However, it is our experience that most patients will sufficiently have therapeutic benefits with ≤ 40mg/day of oral THC products or ≤ 500mg*/day of inhalational THC products. (*Note this relates to total gram of THC/day – not the weight of a flower product). As an example:
- Vaporizing 2.6g/day of a 19% THC medicinal cannabis flower will equate to 500mg/day of inhalational THC; by extrapolation, the monthly flower dose will be approximately 90g per month.
- Vaporizing 2g/day of a 25% THC medicinal cannabis flower will equate to 500mg/day of inhalational THC; by extrapolation, the monthly flower dose will be approximately 60g per month.
In line with best practice, these THC limits stated above are our benchmark for prescription.
In the interest of time, you are advised to have the following information ready for your follow up consult:
- Total grams of each medicinal cannabis flower product(s) you use per day or how many days it takes each container of 10g or 15g flower to elapse?
- Total mLs of each medicinal cannabis oil product(s) you use per day?
- Total draws of each medicinal cannabis cartridge product(s) you use per day?
- Total daily dose of any other form of medicinal cannabis product(s) you are using that is not listed above
